There are many analogies for life, and my favorite has to do with the ocean. Living in Southern California the past 35 years, the beach is genuinely my happy place. It fascinates and inspires me. And I know Mother Nature has many things to teach us.

Pause. Listen. Observe.

The way I’ve come to see it, challenges in life come in waves and while you may not be able to control them, you can learn how to surf. Fighting against waves, can leave you exhausted, discouraged, and maybe even further away from your goal than when you started. But when you decide to ride whatever wave you’re faced with, you emerge each one as a different person, one who’s had much more experience and insight than when you started.

Now, sometimes you’ll find yourself dealing with big waves. Here’s something to keep in mind: the bigger the wave, the faster it generally travels. So, if you think you’re caught in a big wave right now, if you’re facing that big challenge, know that even if it feels overwhelming and scary, it will subside.

The question is, will you go against the current or learn to surf? xo
